On September 22, the APEC 12th Transportation Ministers' Meeting was held in Beijing. The theme of the meeting was "Collaboration and Innovation: Shaping a New Future for Smart Transport in the Asia-Pacific Region". Mr. Liu Wei, Minister of Transport of China, presided over the meeting. Transport ministers or representatives from APEC member economies and representatives of relevant international organizations attended the meeting.
Amb. Zhan Yongxin, Co-Chair of PECC and Chair of CNCPEC, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Amb. Zhan stated that digital technology is now fully integrated into all aspects of transportation, including road network management, autonomous driving, smart operation and maintenance, and green emission reduction, continuously empowering the construction of Asia-Pacific connectivity and injecting new momentum into regional economic integration. However, the coordinated development of transportation digitization in the Asia-Pacific region still faces many governance bottlenecks, such as inconsistent data standards across economies, restricted cross-border data flow, significant differences in regulatory rules, and an imperfect regional coordination mechanism. Asia-Pacific economies should improve the normalized regional cooperation mechanism and strengthen the foundation of collaborative governance; promote mutual recognition and interoperability of technical standards to break down barriers to cross-border connectivity; build a people-centered smart transportation system to promote inclusive development. Adhering to the principles of openness, innovation, and cooperation, we should continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation in the field of smart transportation, help build a smarter, safer, and more inclusive Asia-Pacific transportation system, and inject strong momentum into the joint effort to build a prosperous and coexistent Asia-Pacific Community with a shared future.
