During September 18-20, CNCPEC organized international symposium on “Asia Pacific Regional Integration and FTA Construction” in Sanya, Hainan Province with Hainan China Gold Eagle Peace and Development Foundation and APEC Study Center of Nankai University. There were 60 more participants from government, business and academia attended the symposium, including PECC Co-chair/CNCPEC Chair Amb Su Ge, PECC CO-chair/CANPEC Chair Donald Campbell, China APEC Senior Official Lu Mei, PECC Secretary General Eduardo Pedrosa.

The Symposium was held in the context of APEC making post 2020

agenda and Hainan Province constructing free trade test zone. APEC leaders set ‘Bogor Goal’in 1994 in Indonesia, aiming at free trade and investment in developed members by 2010, and developing members by 2020. As 2020 is drawing near, how should APEC develop and what vision should APEC have is a key point of members’ concern and discussion.

In his opening remarks, Amb. Su Ge said that APEC Post 2020 vision should be strategic, practical, inclusive and sustainable. Donald Campbell stressed that under circumstance of difficulties of world trade system and regional cooperation, PECC needs to cooperate with other stakeholders for contributing APEC’s visionary post 2020 agenda.

Participants have had discussions on Asia Pacific New Trends and Multilateral Trade System, APEC’s Role and Bogor Goal: Progress, Experiences and Lessons, APEC Post 2020: New Role and New Goal, New Priorities and New Areas of Cooperation, Common Denominators and Recommendations.

The executive summary of the symposium will be provided to APEC Senior Officials Meeting to be held in Papua New Guinea November.
