CNCPEC Hosted Video Symposium on "Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation under the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic"

On May 15, 2020, China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation(CNCPEC) hosted a video symposium on "Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation under the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic". Amb. Zhao Yali, Vice Chair of CNCPEC chaired the symposium. Amb. Su Ge, Chair of CNCPEC and Co-Chair of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council(PECC), delivered an opening speech. Amb. Ma Keqing, Executive Vice Chair of CNCPEC, made concluding remarks.

In the opening speech, Amb. Su Ge, Co-Chair of PECC and Chair of CNCPEC, illustrated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the international political and economic situation from three aspects: "judging the situation", "change and constancy" and "opportunities in risks". Amb. Su Ge made suggestions on how China should respond to the pandemic, underlining that we must play a great "upper hand move" in the "post-pandemic era", persist in accelerating the full recovery of the order of production and daily life in the normalization of pandemic prevention and control, meanwhile, unswervingly expand Reform and Opening-up, and play a constructive role to stabilize the world economy and promote economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.

      Scholars and experts attending the event include Prof. Liu Chenyang, Vice Chair of CNCPEC and Director of APEC Research Center of Nankai University, Cao Yuanzheng, Vice Chair of CNCPEC and Chairman of the board of the Bank of China International Research Co. , Ltd. , Chen Wenling, Chief Economist of China Center for International Economic Exchanges(CCIEE), Chen Fengying, Senior Researcher of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations(CICIR), Jiang Yuechun, Senior Research Fellow of China Institute of International Studies, Zhang Jianping, Senior Research Fellow of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of Ministry of Commerce. They conducted in-depth discussion on topics such as the international political and economic situation under the pandemic, the prospects of the construction of global industrial chains, supply chains and service chains, the development direction of APEC multilateral mechanisms, the trend of economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, the opportunities and challenges of China-Japan-ROK cooperation, the impact of pandemic on existing international financial environment, the current status and future of China-US relations, etc.
