Symposium on Asia-Pacific Connectivity Held in Beijing

    On June 9, 2020, the symposium on Asia-Pacific ConnectivityCurrent Status and Future was held in Beijing. The symposium was hosted by the China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation(CNCPEC), and it was also the first time that CNCPEC hold an offline symposium after the COVID-19 pandemic. The symposium was chaired by Amb. Zhao Yali, Vice Chair of CNCPEC. Amb. Su Ge, Chair of CNCPEC and Co-Chair of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council(PECC), delivered an opening speech. Ms. Lu Mei, China's APEC Senior Official, attended the symposium and gave a keynote speech. Amb. Ma Keqing, Executive Vice Chair of CNCPEC, made concluding remarks.


Amb. Su Ge delivered an opening speech

 

In the opening speech, Amb. Su Ge pointed out that connectivity is a historical trend and has gradually become one of the important symbols of the contemporary era. So far, the connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region has made important progress in terms of infrastructure, institution and people-to-people exchanges. In post-pandemic era, the Asia-Pacific region needs to commit itself to turning crises into opportunities, continue to deepen connectivity and contribute to economic cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region.



Ms. Lu Mei gave a keynote speech

In the keynote speech, China's APEC Senior Official Lu Mei emphasized that connectivity is one of the important contents of building an “Asia-Pacific Community with a Shared Future”. We should maintain the positive trend of Asia-Pacific connectivity, and on this basis, fully release the positive effects of the “Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)”. APEC members should take full advantage the “APEC Connectivity Blueprint” mid-term review to inject new impetus into Asia-Pacific connectivity.

They had in-depth discussion on topics such as APEC Connectivity Status and Mid-term Review of “APEC Connectivity Blueprint 2015-2025”, Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Asia-Pacific Connectivity, etc.
